When you buy an bansuri flute, it is good to know how to take care of it.
A Bansuri doesn’t need much care, but it does need a lot of protection, A slide of the bottom shelf can be enough to make a crack in the fragile wood. It is important when you own a Bansuri to be aware of this, always transport it in a hard case and if you travel longer distances then put some foam or fabric wrapped around it.
Three times a year it is a good idea to oil the inside of the Bamboo to protect against moisture and humidity, you can use a simple olive oil or a hard linseed oil if you have, and gently apply the oil on a peace of cloth attached to a stick. Be very carefull not to scratch the inside walls of the bamboo as they are very delicate. After you apply the oil, leave the Bansuri to dry for at least 24 hours before you start playing it again.
It is important that the binding is kept tight on the flute, if it for some reason falls of, you should replace it with new thread. In that case, let me know and I will forward you a tutorial. The binding serves a very important purpose of keeping the flute from cracking when it is exposed to changes in weather.
Other than that, the best care you can give a Bansuri is to play it.
